Remote Learning Update

November 24, 2020

Good Afternoon Eagle Community,

I am extremely grateful to have been able to complete in-person instruction for more than three months. I cannot thank our families enough for partnering with our school district to ensure a safe learning environment throughout this pandemic.  CUSD #57 is truly blessed to have such a wonderful school community of faculty, staff, students and families working together for the betterment of the children of DeLand-Weldon.

As we continue to monitor the increase in positive cases across the area, the decision has been made by the administration along with the Board of Education to remain in remote learning for all students until Monday, December 7th.  Classwork and instruction for next week (11/30-12/4) will continue as it has over the past three school days.

Another factor the district has to consider is the ability to properly staff for in-person instruction. Beyond positive COVID results, if a staff member wakes up with a “COVID-like symptom” or other illness, they cannot come to work. During this pandemic it has become difficult to secure substitute teachers, making the daily uncertainty of in-person staffing one of the reasons for going remote.

Again, we will return to in-person instruction on Monday, December 7th.

If your family is in need of meals for the week of November 30 - December 4, please contact the office by 1:00pm TODAY.

As always, we are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy school environment.  Thank you for your continued understanding and ongoing cooperation.

Mrs. Geary
